About Volume Converter

Volume Converter swaps between metric (liters, milliliters, cubic centimeters), US customary (gallons, quarts, pints, cups, fluid ounces, tablespoons, teaspoons), and imperial gallons (UK gallons are bigger than US gallons). Useful for cooking across US and European recipes, mixing coolant or fuel where the country matters, and chemical dilution where mL and teaspoons get confused. The conversion uses full-precision factors; the US vs imperial gallon distinction is shown clearly. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Best for

  • Translating American cup-based recipes into mL for European measuring jugs
  • Coolant and fuel mixing where US vs imperial gallons differ
  • Chemical dilution where mL, teaspoons, and drops can get confused

Pros

  • +Metric ⇄ US ⇄ imperial ⇄ cooking units in one panel
  • +Explicit US gallon vs imperial gallon distinction
  • +Local JavaScript only; no signup, no uploads, works offline

Cons

  • −Doesn't include 'drop' (US pharmacopoeia 0.05 mL avg) accurately
  • −Doesn't mix wet vs dry cup (US legal cup is different from customary cup)

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a US gallon and an imperial gallon?
A US gallon is 3.7854 L; an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.5461 L. The two differ by ~20%. The panel labels them clearly so you don't accidentally halve a fuel-economy number or a coolant recipe incorrectly.
How many milliliters in a cup?
1 US customary cup = 236.59 mL; 1 metric cup (Australia, etc.) = 250 mL. The panel defaults to the US customary cup since that's the most common in online recipes.
Are tablespoons and teaspoons converted accurately?
Yes. 1 US tablespoon = 14.787 mL and 1 US teaspoon = 4.929 mL. The panel uses these standard factors; the Australian metric tablespoon (20 mL) is not currently included.
Does it handle fluid ounces vs ounces of mass?
Fluid ounces are a volume; ounces of mass are a weight. This tool handles fluid ounces only. To convert ounces of mass to volume you also need density.
Are my volume inputs uploaded?
No. Conversion runs entirely via local JavaScript. Your cooking, mixing, and dilution numbers never leave your device.
