About Voltage Converter

Voltage Converter handles electric potential differences across SI prefixes (V, mV, µV, kV) and the CGS electrostatic statvolt (1 statV ≈ 299.79 V). The panel is what electronics techs reach for when an op-amp datasheet reports offset in mV, a sensor output in µV, a transmission line in kV, and a 1960s physics text in statvolt. The statvolt conversion uses the SI-computed ratio based on c (speed of light). Static page, offline after first load, no analytics on numeric inputs.

Best for

  • Sensor engineers moving between µV thermocouple outputs and mV ADC readings
  • Power-line techs converting kV transmission ratings to V-scale relay set-points
  • Physics students studying CGS electrostatics where statvolt is the standard unit

Pros

  • +SI prefixes (V, mV, µV, kV) plus CGS statvolt on one panel
  • +Statvolt uses the exact c-based ratio (1 statV ≈ 299.792458 V)
  • +Static page — offline after first load; no signup, no analytics

Cons

  • −Does not include abvolt (1 abV = 10 nV); use V and convert prefix manually
  • −AC RMS↔peak conversion is outside scope — pure unit scaling

Frequently Asked Questions

How do millivolts, microvolts and volts relate?
1 V = 1000 mV = 1,000,000 µV. The tool uses SI prefix ratios exactly. Microvolt measurements are common in sensor and biomedical contexts (EEG/EKG range is µV);kilovolt in power transmission.
What is a statvolt?
The statvolt is the CGS electrostatic unit of potential: 1 statV ≈ 299.792458 V (the numeric factor equals c in cm/s ÷ 10¹⁰). It appears in older physics texts and certain QED derivations; SI's volt is the modern standard.
Can I convert voltage to current or power?
No — voltage is its own quantity. To get current from voltage you need resistance (I = V/R); to get power you need current (P = V × I). Use the matching converter after you supply the missing variables.
Why does my transformer datasheet list kV and my relay in V?
Different conventions: grid-scale equipment uses kV (a 230 kV line, an 11 kV distribution feed), control panels and low-voltage relays use V. The tool jumps the scale with one input so the same figure reads in both conventions.
Are my voltage inputs uploaded?
No. Conversion factors are static and embedded in the page; everything runs locally in your browser, offline-ready, no signup.
