About HEIC
HEIC
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's implementation of the HEIF standard, using the HEVC codec. It stores images at roughly half the file size of JPEG at comparable quality. HEIC is the default photo format on iOS 11+ and macOS High Sierra+, and supports multiple images and depth data within a single file.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a HEIC file?▼
HEIC is Apple's default photo format on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11. It stores high-quality photos at roughly half the size of JPG, but many apps and devices outside the Apple ecosystem cannot open it.
Why won't my HEIC photos open on Windows or Android?▼
HEIC support is limited outside Apple devices. Windows needs an extension, and many websites reject HEIC uploads. Converting to JPG solves compatibility instantly.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?▼
A tiny amount, since JPG is lossy — but at high quality settings the difference is practically invisible. Your converted photos remain perfectly usable for sharing, printing, and archiving.
Are my iPhone photos uploaded when I convert them here?▼
Never. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your photos stay on your device the whole time.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?▼
Yes. ChameLeo supports batch conversion — drop a whole folder of iPhone photos and convert them all to JPG or PNG in one go.
