About Extract 7Z

Extract 7Z opens .7z archives in your browser without installing 7-Zip, lists every member file, and lets you download any of them individually. Built on a WebAssembly port of the open-source LZMA decoder, the tool handles password-encrypted 7z archives (AES-256) where you supply the key locally — useful for opening an encrypted client deliverable on a corporate laptop without admin rights. Decoder runs entirely in-browser; the archive, the password, and the extracted members all stay on device.

Best for

  • Corporate laptop users without admin rights receiving .7z deliverables
  • Opening an AES-256 encrypted .7z without installing 7-Zip locally
  • Pulling one member file from a large .7z without decoding the whole archive

Pros

  • +LZMA + LZMA2 decoder in-browser — no install, works on locked-down machines
  • +AES-256 (encrypted .7z) supported with a local password input — key never uploaded
  • +Selectively decode only the member files you want — saves time on big archives

Cons

  • −Decoding a multi-GB LZMA archive on a phone (4 GB RAM) takes minutes
  • −Split 7z archives (.7z.001/.7z.002…) are not yet auto-joined

How to use Extract 7Z

  1. 1

Select or upload the 7z archive from your local device.

  2. 2

Browse the listed files and pick which to extract.

  3. 3

  4. 4

Download the extracted files directly to your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I open encrypted 7z archives?
Yes — supply the password when prompted; the tool applies AES-256 locally. The key never leaves your device. Don't forget the password — 7z AES-256 has no recovery backdoor.
Can I open split archives (.7z.001/.7z.002)?
Not in this release; split-archive auto-joining is on the roadmap. Merge the parts manually with file-roller or the `cat 7z.001 7z.002 > 7z` style command first, then drop the merged file here.
Why does extraction take a while on a 5-GB 7z?
LZMA2's larger dictionary requires real CPU work to decode. On a desktop, a 5-GB archive decrypts in ~1 minute; on a phone with 4 GB RAM, expect several minutes and possible RAM pressure.
Can I see inside the archive without extracting?
Yes — the tool lists every member with size and date before any decoding starts. Pick the ones you want; only those decode. Useful when you only need one file from a large bundle.
Are my archive, password, or extracted files uploaded?
No. The decoder runs as WebASM inside the browser sandbox. Encrypted client deliverables, password keys, and the extracted members all stay on your device.
