About Video to Text

Video to Text extracts the audio track of a video file and transcribes it entirely in your browser using Whisper compiled to WebAssembly. You get editable text you can copy straight into your notes, ideal for turning a webinar, lecture recording, or interview clip into searchable content. The transcription runs locally, so client footage, course recordings, and unreleased material never leave your device the whole time — important for journalists, teachers, and documentary workers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Video to Text keep the video itself?
No. The tool takes the audio track of the video, transcribes the speech, and returns text. To save a smaller video clip with subtitles drafted in, drop the transcription into a subtitle editor separately.
Which video formats are supported?
Any format your browser can decode: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and others. HEVC videos work where the browser supports decoding; otherwise convert to H.264 MP4 first.
How long does transcribing take?
Roughly the audio's duration or a few times longer on phones. A 10-minute video on a modern laptop transcribes in 2–4 minutes; the same on a phone can take 5–10 minutes.
Can I transcribe a 2-hour documentary?
Technically yes, but on phones it may run out of RAM or time out. Split long videos into 30-minute chunks using the trim tool first; transcribe each chunk separately and concatenate the text output.
Are my private videos uploaded during transcription?
Never. Whisper compiled to WebAssembly runs inside your browser sandbox. Course recordings, interview footage, and unreleased promo material stay on your device the whole time.
