About Photos to GIF

Photos to GIF stitches a list of JPG or PNG images into an animated GIF that loops forever — useful for stop-motion previews, before/after comparisons, simple screen-capture simulations, and reaction-style micro-animations. You set the frame rate and order; the tool encodes locally in your browser via WASM. The result is a single GIF you can drop into Slack, Discord, or a forum that takes images but not video. Because the entire encoding runs locally, your frames — including unreleased marketing material — never leave your device.

Best for

  • Assembling a stop-motion preview from a photo series
  • Before/after comparison loop for product mockups
  • Simple looping reaction GIF from screenshots instead of full video

Pros

  • +Choose the order of frames and the playback speed
  • +Mix JPG and PNG frames in the same GIF
  • +Local WASM encoding — unreleased frames stay private

Cons

  • −GIF is 256-color only; smooth gradients and skin tones band
  • −GIF size grows fast — keep frame count under ~30 and dimensions small

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I control the speed of the loop?
Set the frame delay in milliseconds per frame (smaller delay = faster loop). A common starting point is 100 ms per frame for a quick stop-motion; use 300–500 ms for slide-style before/after comparisons.
Can I mix JPG and PNG in the same GIF?
Yes. Drop any combination of JPG and PNG frames; the tool decodes each one and re-encodes into the GIF. Note that PNG transparency flattens against a background color in the GIF since GIF only supports binary (1-bit) alpha.
Why does my GIF look posterized?
GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame, so smooth gradients (sky, skin) show step-banding. Keep the source images as flat-color illustrations or stylized photos where the color reduction is less visible.
How many frames can I include?
There is no hard limit, but GIFs grow quickly — 30 frames at 480px often exceed 10 MB. Keep frame count low (10–30 works best for chat stickers), use small dimensions, and lower the frame rate for a smaller result.
Are my source frames uploaded during GIF creation?
Never. Decoding and encoding all run in your browser via WASM. Personal photos, marketing mockups, and unreleased frames stay on your device the whole time.
