About Compress Image

Compress Image downsamples and re-encodes JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and other image files to smaller sizes suitable for email attachments, website uploads, or chat size limits. You choose a quality level: higher keeps photos crisp, lower reclaims more bytes. For PNG with transparency, the tool also handles lossless palette optimization. The whole pipeline runs locally in your browser, so client mockups, signed scans, and family photos never leave your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I shrink JPG photos?
DSLR and modern phone JPGs typically compress 50–85% at quality 80 with no visible difference. Going lower (quality 60 and below) reclaims more bytes but begins to show blocky artifacts in smooth gradients and skin tones.
Will compressing PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG compression keeps the alpha channel intact; the tool uses lossless palette and defilter optimization rather than flattening to a solid background. The result is a smaller PNG with the same transparency.
Can compressing switch my image format?
By default the tool keeps the input format. To switch (e.g. PNG → WebP for much smaller files with transparency), run the format converter first, then compress.
Why is my already-optimized WebP barely shrinking?
WebP and AVIF are already highly efficient, so further lossy compression finds little excess data — typically 5–15% at the same quality. The big wins come from JPG and PNG originals; for WebP/AVIF, accept less or switch quality.
Are my private images uploaded during compression?
Never. The whole pipeline runs in your browser via the built-in image APIs and WASM libraries. Client mockups, medical scans, and signed documents never leave your device.
