About Hex Text Converter

Hex Text Converter encodes UTF-8 strings to their hexadecimal byte representation and decodes back. Useful for inspecting the actual bytes of a string, building binary test vectors for an API, comparing two UTF-8 strings that look identical but differ in invisible characters, and preparing data for a low-level tool that wants hex input. The conversion uses local JavaScript String → TypedArray → hex methods, so any secrets you paste stay on your device.

Best for

  • Inspecting bytes of a string to spot invisible unicode characters
  • Building binary test vectors for a hardware or crypto API
  • Preparing hex input for a checksum or hash command

Pros

  • +Pure UTF-8 hex code — non-Latin and emoji characters convert correctly
  • +Bidirectional — encode text to hex, decode hex back to text
  • +Local JavaScript only — secrets you paste stay on your device

Cons

  • −Hex output grows 2:1; long strings become very long
  • −Whitespace handling on decode is strict — paste clean hex

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the use of converting text to hex?
Hex shows the actual byte sequence. Two strings that look identical may use different unicode forms (NFC vs NFD) and produce different bytes; hex reveals the difference. Hex is also a standard input format for crypto and hashing tools.
Does this handle emoji and CJK?
Yes. UTF-8 encoded bytes are used, so an emoji becomes a 4-byte hex sequence and CJK characters become 3-byte sequences. Decode produces the original unicode string.
Is hex the same as ASCII or binary encoding?
No. ASCII shows the numeric code point (mostly 0–127); hex shows the UTF-8 byte sequence. A single emoji has ASCII fallback '?' but a 4-byte hex sequence. Binary tool here shows bits (01001000) instead of bytes.
Can I decode bytes that aren't valid UTF-8?
The tool tries UTF-8 decode and shows replacement characters () for invalid byte sequences. If you have non-UTF-8 bytes (Latin1, raw binary), interpret the hex manually or use a different decoder.
Are my secrets uploaded during conversion?
Never. Conversion runs via local JavaScript string-to-Uint8Array methods. Passwords, API tokens, and personal strings stay in your browser.
