About Data Format Converter

Data Format Converter rewrites a data structure between JSON, XML, and YAML — useful when a service expects XML and you have JSON, when a Kubernetes manifest (YAML) needs to become a JSON test request, or when you want to copy a YAML config into a JS object without writing parser glue. The conversion runs locally via fast JavaScript parsers; nothing is uploaded, so config containing API keys, secrets, or customer data stays on your device.

Best for

  • Turning a JSON test response into XML for a legacy SOAP-style endpoint
  • Converting a Kubernetes YAML manifest into JSON for kubectl apply --dry-run
  • Pasting a YAML config into a JS file as a real object without quote escaping

Pros

  • +Three-way conversion: JSON ⇄ XML ⇄ YAML
  • +Validates syntax on input — schema errors jump out before conversion
  • +Local parsers — config with secrets stays on your device

Cons

  • −XML attributes vs child elements require a convention; defaults may need tweaks
  • −YAML with comments or anchors does not always convert to JSON losslessly

Frequently Asked Questions

Does conversion preserve XML attributes?
Attributes are converted to JSON keys by default (often prefixed with '@' or '$'); check the output for the convention. If you need a specific attribute/element mapping, post-process the converted result or paste the XML directly and use a custom reader.
Are YAML comments preserved?
No — comments don't exist in JSON or XML. Any '#' comments in the original YAML are lost when the structure is converted. Keep a YAML copy as the source of truth if comments matter.
What about YAML anchors and aliases?
Anchors are expanded to the full value when converted to JSON or XML, so the output gets the resolved structure rather than references. Re-converting back to YAML will not re-introduce anchors.
Can I convert very large config files?
Files in the megabyte range convert without issue; very large files (tens of MB) may slow the tab briefly. For huge Kubernetes manifests, split the YAML before conversion if your browser struggles.
Are my secrets uploaded during conversion?
Never. JSON, XML, and YAML parsing all run locally via JavaScript parsers. Config containing API keys, password hashes, or customer records never leaves your device.
