About Trim Video

Trim Video lets you cut the beginning and end of a video file, removing the awkward intro, the long walk to the camera at the end, or a moment of dead air. You can also extract just a chosen middle range (from 00:30 to 02:15, for example). When your editing point has a keyframe boundary, the trim can be lossless (no re-encode); when not, the segment is re-encoded at the original resolution and bitrate so quality stays essentially identical. Everything runs in your browser with FFmpeg WASM, so your clips remain on your device.

Best for

  • Trimming the pre-roll stumble and post-roll camera pickup from phone clips
  • Cutting a 1-minute highlight out of a longer screen recording
  • Removing dead air at the start of an interview for a cleaner preview

Pros

  • +Lossless trim when cut points fall on keyframes (remux, no re-encode)
  • +Pick precise start and end times for the kept segment
  • +FFmpeg in your browser — clips stay private on the device

Cons

  • −Cut points between keyframes force a re-encode of the surrounding GOP
  • −Trimming very long source files (hours of footage) uses RAM for buffering

Frequently Asked Questions

Will trimming reduce the quality of the kept segment?
Not when the cut lands on a keyframe — the segment is remuxed losslessly. When the cut falls between keyframes, the surrounding GOP is re-encoded at the original codec and bitrate, so the visible change is minimal.
Can I trim a middle segment out of a long screen recording?
Yes. Set the start and end timestamps of the segment you want kept; everything before and after is dropped. The result is one self-contained MP4 with the chosen segment.
Why is the trimmed file's exact start a few frames off from what I asked?
Because trimming only cuts at keyframes unless it re-encodes the surrounding group. The safest lossless cut snaps to the nearest keyframe, which can be a fraction of a second before or after your chosen timestamp.
Does trimming change the audio sync?
No. Audio and video are trimmed together; the start of each track aligns at the chosen cut point, so lip movement and action stay in sync in the output.
Are my source videos uploaded during trimming?
Never. The trim runs entirely in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Personal clips, screen recordings, and unreleased footage never leave your device.
